About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Aston Villa secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion in their Premier League clash at Villa Park, thanks to a late goal from Jack Hinshelwood. This result was somewhat surprising given Brighton's recent form, but Villa's resilience paid off in the end. The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. The decisive moment came in the 87th minute when Jack Hinshelwood found the back of the net, securing all three points for the home side. Aston Villa's defense, marshaled by Tyrone Mings (GAP +3.3%) and Ezri Konsa (GAP +3.6%), held firm against Brighton's attacks, while Emiliano Martinez (GAP +3.9%) made crucial saves to keep a clean sheet. Aston Villa made two changes to their starting lineup compared to their previous game, with Ian Maatsen and Lamare Bogarde coming in for Lucas Digne and Matty Cash. Brighton, on the other hand, made five changes, bringing in Danny Welbeck (GAP +1.9%), Joel Veltman (GAP +3.5%), Jan Paul van Hecke (GAP +3.4%), Jack Hinshelwood, and Diego Gómez. The reasons for these changes were not explicitly detailed in post-match reports. Ollie Watkins (GAP +3.1%) was a constant threat for Villa, although he couldn't find the net. Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma (GAP +2.6%) showed flashes of brilliance but was unable to break through Villa's defense. This victory lifts Aston Villa in the league standings, providing a much-needed boost as they aim to climb higher in the table. For Brighton, this defeat is a setback, but they remain competitive in the mid-table battle. Both teams will look to build on this performance in their upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
